Vinca Garden: A Rooftop Landscape Growing with Everyday Life
Vinca Garden Journal · Chapter One
Following our initial Vinca Garden announcement, the rooftop is entering a new stage. It is no longer only a space under construction, but a living garden shaped by plants, small harvests, changing seasons and the people who spend time here.
This journal will continue to follow the garden as planting changes, new areas take shape and the rooftop becomes part of daily company life at Ronglin.
A Garden in Progress
More than a finished landscape.
Vinca Garden is intended to keep changing. Its value comes from the relationship between the rooftop, the planting, the planters and the people who use the space over time.
An evolving rooftop garden
An underused roof is becoming a planted setting for walking, observing, resting and sharing small moments away from the working day.
Plants are settling into place
Paths, climbing plants, fruiting vines, trees and container planting are beginning to create their own rhythm across the rooftop.
The story is still expanding
Planned stages include a separate garden house, new planting areas, seasonal changes and more ways to use the garden together.
Before · Now · Future
A rooftop story that remains open.
The project is best understood as a timeline rather than a single completion date. Each stage creates material for the next Vinca Garden entry.
An unused rooftop and an early idea
The first stage focused on turning an overlooked roof into a usable garden framework. The original News entry records that starting point, including early construction and planter placement.
A garden entering everyday life
Planting is becoming denser, fruit is appearing and the space is beginning to support quiet breaks, informal walks and shared observations.
New spaces, plants and activities
A garden house, additional landscape areas, seasonal planting and company activities will give the journal new chapters to document.
A Small Garden Moment
The first passion fruit of the season.
A harvest may seem like a small event, but it changes how a garden is experienced. The fruit gives people a reason to look more closely, return to the same plant and notice how the space changes from week to week.
Moments like this move Vinca Garden beyond a decorative rooftop. They turn it into a place where planting, observation and daily life overlap. Future journal entries will follow these changes without treating every flower, fruit or new leaf as a finished ecological result.

Planters in Context
Supporting the planting without dominating it.
The planters provide planting volume, visual structure and a consistent material language. As the vegetation develops, their role should feel increasingly integrated into the garden.
The two scenes also show why Vinca Garden is not organized around one planter style. A textured round container can give a fruiting tree a strong visual base, while an oversized bowl can hold a more expansive flowering composition. Rectangular containers and smaller pots appear nearby as supporting layers rather than competing focal points.
This is the same principle explored across Ronglin’s Projects & Applications page: a planter works best when its scale, finish and position respond to the surrounding space. Larger or project-specific requirements can also be reviewed through our oversized planter project guide.
What the Garden Is Beginning to Show
Growth can be documented without forcing a conclusion.
The journal can follow visible changes in planting, use and maintenance while keeping measured environmental claims separate from everyday observation.
From installation to active growth
Fruiting vines and trees offer clear milestones that can be recorded over time: new growth, flowering, fruit development, harvest and the way each plant responds to its position on the roof.
Different plant roles in one space
Trees, flowering shrubs, climbing plants, bamboo-like screening and smaller container planting create different heights and degrees of enclosure without requiring every area to look the same.
Maintenance remains visible
Tools, temporary pots and open planting areas are part of the honest story. A living garden requires pruning, replacement, soil work, irrigation checks and adjustments as plants establish themselves.
